Pajama Day

The week was our School Play - "A Kidsummer Night's Dream".  Everyone has worked so tirelessly over the last months and finally, this week, the show was ON!

So now, today, the show is over, teachers and students alike can be seen in their PJ's, just taking it easy as reward for a fantastic production.

Here are some PJ scenes ....

Songsmith!

In amongst the organised chaos of this week, with the School Play tomorrow, two of my Grade 7 boys were already thinking about Assembly on Friday.

Why? Well, because they are going to be doing some guitar playing for us. I was very happy to accommodate them when they popped into the ICT Centre asked if they could come and "see how they sounded" using Songsmith, which I recently put onto each PC.

I carried on with my work while they warmed up, strummed a little - and they sounded pretty good to me.  I managed to sneak a photo or two as well as a couple of video clips.  I thought you may enjoy them too.

This is what I envision happening here - that the ICT Centre is not only for "Computer Class/Club", but that it will be used across the curriculum, enhancing and re-inforcing what happens in the classroom.

Well Done Guys. Looking forward to Assembly and the real deal!

Assembly

Gratitude!

This week the Grade 3's presented Assembly on Gratitude.  Our Grade 3 Teacher had prepared a short clip with her class about what they were grateful for, the story of Ruth and Boaz as well as a fun interactive game to play with the chldren.  Everyone enjoyed it!

Congratulations go to our Smartie & Merit Award Children for this week.
Well done Boys and Girls! Keep up the great work, we are all very proud of you!

Grade 5 - Afrikaans Oral

"Hoe om 'n gesonde toebroodjie te maak."

The Grade 5's had prepared their oral on "How to make a healthy sandwich". I popped in to watch for a few minutes and managed to get some great moments!

Grade 6 - Space

The Grade 6 have been doing a Tech Project on Space.

They had to create their own solar system in any way that they chose as well as having to source information on a specific planet / star / or the entire solar sytem for an oral.  This part of the project was done in ICT. Their photographs were sourced during class, put into Photo Story 3 and they recorded their oral with their photographs.

The movie clip was made when the class came through to watch one another's Orals. It was fun to watch them enjoy the different styles and just as much fun to hear their reactions to their own voices.

Their models and their movies were really fantastic and their Class Teacher and I were both very proud of the work that done for it.

Well done Grade 6! Great job.

Grade 5 - Egypt...The Trial Run

The Grade 5's have been busy preparing their SS Movie on Egypt. After weeks of research, they brought their information to ICT.

These photographs and the movie clip was taken on their "Trial Run" narration day.  It was the first time that they have used the microphones and recorded themselves and there were shrieks of laughter when they heard themselves for the first time!

It wasn't long before they settled down and in the clip you can hear them all completely immersed in their narrating and their projects.

They did really well, I am very proud of them and am looking
 forward to the end results!

Well Done to our Merit Children today - Keep up the Good Work!

Grade 6 - TEARS Outing

On Thursday 28 July, the Grade 6's went on an outing to TEARS.

Enjoy some of the thoughts and poems written about the outing!

"Today we went to TEARS. I absolutely loved it. My favourite part was seeing the dogs and puppies. The puppies were adorable - one of the moms had 13 puppies! They were all kinds of awesome and cute breeds. We then went to go and see the cats. Actually we saw the cats first but everything was awesome!" ~ Krissy ~

"Being with the cats was really fun. I was amazed by how friendly the cats were. We played and stroked them. What I loved most was the puppies. I know it sounds like any child who has seen them! The joy it gave me to see that my aunts best friend, Emma's charity had changed lives.  Emma died in a car crash and left all her money to TEARS.  We were looking for a special pup to take home. I love seeing Shala "my pup from TEARS" on the adopted board. TEARS is a patch of heaven that changes lives. There was a starving mom with 13 pups and TEARS gave them a home. I hope we can visit again." ~ Michaela ~

"TEARS, well, I enjoyed TEARS. I can really say I had tears of joy when I saw Vanilla, she was the kindest cat ever and she loved me. She may not look pretty but inside she is something else. It's true when people say don't judge a book by its cover - with Vanilla her inside is something else." ~ Fiki ~

"Andre: Hey George, who was your favourite?
George: George of course, who else would it be?
Andre: I don't know, maybe that black one?
George: No! Not that one. It hated me!
Andre: I think you were just scared.
George: Fine. Who was your favourite?
Andre: Those ones that look like Mincie.
George: Oh, I thought so.
Andre: Maybe they are siblings?
George: Maybe they are......"
                                  ~ Andre ~

"We went in to see the dog kennels and we walked around and there were big dogs, little dogs and baby dogs about 7 months old. We came across a lot of puppies and a mom and when they took the mother out of her kennel, the baby dogs went for the milk and they had to stop them. It was funny to see there were teenager dogs. The teenager dogs were 7 months to 1 year." ~ Lee ~

"Today I went to TEARS and I saw such cute little cats and lots of dogs. When I went into the cats cage I saw lots of cats and most of them tried to bite me, but it was cool. Although my eyes got very itchy!" ~ Skye ~

Grade 1 - Space

The Grade 1's in the second term learnt about all our wonderful planets and what goes on in space.

During the holidays, they had a space project where they had to make a Space Diarama. They had to choose either a planet, a comet or something space related, make a diarama and present an oral on their topic.

They thoroughly enjoyed themselves as was evident in their beautiful work and orals.

Grade 4 ~ Farming and Soil

The Grade 4's are looking at farming and soil, and so we have made our green-haired creatures out of soil and and grass seed.

Here are the Before pics.... let's see what happens!

Watch this space... we are hopeful that some "green people" will show up soon!
