Market Day

Every year the Grade 5's get to have a Market Day.

This is done with great thought and much excitement. They need to find a product that they can sell, work out what it will cost to either make or buy it, add on some profit and then market themselves well.

Posters are made, expense sheets are worked on and all the sales-people make an appearance to sell their wares.

This year, like the previous years, saw all our budding entrepreneurs with their stall set up and doing their best to make a profit.

This is always a real treat for everyone as there is such a variety of interesting goodies to spend your pocket money on!

Around the World in a Term

For the last term of 2011, the Grade 1's had quite an adventure travelling around the world!

Their teacher has focussed on culture, attractions and food that they eat. It's been a lot of fun watching the little ones arrive on a Friday, with their suitcase of clothing suitable for the climate they are travelling to. Hearing their shrieks as they 'take off'  in the aeroplane. You guessed it, their seats are in airline style!

I pop in now and again to photograph the excitement and am often greeted with the lovely sight of food being prepared in the classroom, like pizza for Italy, the frying of hamburger patties for USA, and pancakes for the Netherlands.

Predator & Prey Project

The Grade 2's have been having an exciting time learning about predators and their prey.

They chose three predators to create projects on:

• Sharks
• Eels
• Squid

They had to design a poster as well as do worksheets and draw a picture of their chosen predator. They went on an outing to the Shark Centre where they had time to ask questions and learn alot more about these predators. They popped off to the beach to explore the rockpools and to find other smaller predators and prey. 

It was a beautiful day both weatherwise and outing-wise!

They completed the module by summarising their facts, bringing them to ICT where they created a PowerPoint slide with the habitat, eating habits, appearance and interesting facts of their animal.

One of the Grade 2's was absent for the Powerpoint slide, so I asked her to bring a friend with her to teach her what they had learnt with me. I caught this little clip of the one teaching the other - it was very cute, so thought I would share it with you!

Grandparents Day!

Grandparents Day is always a special event on the Calendar. The classes and some individuals prepared an item to perform, tea was laid on and excitement was evident among the learners.

We have a book table where books can be bought and donated to the school. We so appreciate these donations that give hours of reading pleasure, made possible by the Grannies and Grandpa's.

After the performances the Grandparents were taken upstairs to the classrooms where they perused the books and work of their grandchildren. It's always wonderful to see the interaction at this event and some precious moments are witnessed.

Barn Dance!

Our final Fundraiser of the year was our Barn Dance. A great opportunity to dress up (or down), bring your sense of humour, and your children and have a good time together.

It was well supported and enjoyed by all!

The Intercessors Tea

We are privileged to have a wonderful group of people in our local and international community who partner with us in prayer. 

Earlier this month we invited them to have tea with us to thank them for their encouragement and support which we really value.

Unfortuately not all our intercessors could be there, but it was a great time for the Staff to meet these people who so faithfully support them and the School in prayer.

KFC Mini Cricket

Our Mini Cricketers excited to be a part of the KFC Tournament!

We were so excited to find that our Mini Cricket Team was invited to take part in the KFC Mini Cricket Tournament at Newlands on the momentous 11.11.11 Test Match between SA and Aus.

Grade 7 Messages

The Grade 7's this week had fun playing with Voki Avatars.  My instruction to them was to leave a message or some advice to the Grade 1-6's as they go forward.  They definately enjoyed it. If you would like to try this at home, you will find instructions here. 

Trees!

The Grade 2's have been studying Trees in class lately and went, with the rest of the school, on an outing to the Arboretum.

It was a beautiful day for an outing and everyone enjoyed themselves.

The Grade 2's  then wrote their own poems about Trees.....

Truthfulness

The Grade 3 Assembly on Friday was on introducing the character trait of "Truthfulness".

We began with a dance group - Kingdom Dancers who did a great hip hip dance number for us.

After that, Mrs B reminded the children what truthfulness is using Pinocchio and following it with the story of Ananias and Saphira.

She ended with a lovely illustration with coke and plastic buttons: How, if we drop the buttons into a glass of Coke, they appear hidden from view, but eventually they float to the surface. This is what happens when we lie - eventually our sin finds us out. 

 We are thankful for a loving God who forgives us when we sin.
